Terms of Service
Last updated: October 2, 2026
These terms are the agreement between you and Maps MCP for using mapsmcp.com, the Maps MCP API and
dashboard, and the reports you publish with them. Please read them, especially the disclaimers and
limits of liability.
Acceptance
By creating a workspace, checking the agreement box when you sign up, or using the service in any other way, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you use Maps MCP on behalf of an organization, you confirm that you are authorized to accept these terms for it, and "you" means that organization. You must be at least 18. If we have signed a separate written agreement with you, such as an Enterprise agreement, it controls where it conflicts with these terms.
The service
Maps MCP ("we", "us") provides U.S. geographic, Census, and election data, along with tools to analyze, map, and publish it:
- a hosted Model Context Protocol (MCP) API at
https://mapsmcp.com/mcp, which AI assistants and your own code call with an API key;
- a browser dashboard for managing your workspace, keys, data, reports, billing, and support tickets;
- reports you can publish at a public link and embed on other websites, with image and data downloads; and
- vector map tiles for the shared boundary collections.
We add, change, and remove features over time. Tools described as MVP, beta, or roadmap are early and may change or go away.
Accounts and API keys
- Email verification. You sign up and sign in with your email address. We confirm you control it by emailing a one-time sign-in link that expires after 15 minutes. Anyone who controls your inbox can sign in to your workspace, so keep it secure.
- Keys are secret. API keys work like passwords. Don't put them in public code, web pages, or repositories. You are responsible for all use of the service under your workspace and its keys, including usage charges, until you revoke a key. If a key may have leaked, rotate or revoke it right away (with
rotate_api_key or revoke_api_key) and let us know.
- One workspace per person or organization. Don't open extra workspaces to get around the limits of your plan.
- Child workspaces. On the Pro plan you can create up to 25 child workspaces, for example one per client or project. Each child has its own keys and data and is isolated from the others. Usage in child workspaces counts toward your plan and appears on your bill, and you are responsible for how the people you give child-workspace access use it.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use the service for anything unlawful or in a way that violates other people's rights, including privacy, consumer-protection, anti-discrimination, and election laws;
- try to access another workspace's data, another customer's account, or any part of the service you aren't authorized to use;
- get around plan limits, quotas, or rate limits, for example by spreading usage across several Free workspaces;
- resell, sublicense, or redistribute system data (described below) in bulk as a standalone dataset, or use it to build a product that competes with Maps MCP;
- send automated traffic that overloads or degrades the service, or ignore rate-limit and retry responses; or
- upload malware, or use the service to harass people or send spam.
We may throttle or block traffic, or remove content, that breaks these rules.
Your data
"Customer data" means the datasets, files, shapes, reports, and other content you upload to or create in your workspace.
- You own it. You keep all rights to your customer data.
- Our license. You give Maps MCP a limited, non-exclusive license to host, store, copy, process, transmit, and display your customer data only as needed to provide, secure, and support the service for you, and to publish it where you tell us to, for example when you make a report public.
- Public reports are public. Anyone with the link to a published report can view it, embed it, and download its images and underlying data (for example as CSV or GeoJSON). Public pages and images may be cached by content-delivery networks and browsers and indexed by search engines. Copies can linger in those caches after you unpublish or delete a report, and anyone who already downloaded it may keep it. Pro workspaces can instead limit a report to embeds on websites they allowlist.
- Privacy locks. You can lock a dataset or report (
lock_dataset, lock_report), or have every new dataset and report in your workspace start out locked. A locked report can't be made public, and a locked dataset can't back a public report or be exported without an explicit override. A lock stays in place until someone with access to your workspace removes it with unlock_dataset or unlock_report, which require confirming both the item's name and its ID.
- Your responsibilities. You are responsible for having the rights and permissions needed to upload and use your customer data, including any personal information about other people in it (such as a contact, donor, or patient list), and for giving any notices and getting any consents the law requires.
- Third-party sources you ingest. The curated ingestion tools pull data from outside publishers, such as the U.S. Census Bureau and other federal agencies, the MIT Election Data and Science Lab, The New York Times, FiveThirtyEight, the Cook Political Report, DIME, and Voteview. Once ingested, that data sits in your workspace, but it is still governed by its publisher's license and terms of use, and some of those restrict commercial use or require attribution. You are responsible for following them, including in reports you publish.
System data
"System data" means the shared boundary collections, map tiles, Census-derived datasets, and other reference data we provide to every workspace, along with the maps and images the service renders for you.
- Boundaries and statistics published by U.S. government agencies, such as Census TIGER/Line boundaries and American Community Survey estimates, are generally in the public domain.
- Some system data comes from non-government publishers (for example, our 2024 precinct boundaries are derived from The New York Times' precinct map) and stays subject to that publisher's terms.
- Subject to those source terms, while you maintain a Maps MCP account you may use system data, tiles, and the maps and images the service renders for you in your own products, research, and publications.
- Maps MCP keeps all rights in the service, our software, and our compilations of the data.
Fees and billing
Current plans, as of the date above (the pricing page always has the latest details):
- Free: $0. 50 standard calls per month, no premium calls, 10 MB of dataset storage, and 1 public report. No card required.
- Starter: $10 per month. 5,000 standard calls and 25 premium calls per month, 100 MB of storage, 5 public reports, and workspace secrets.
- Pro: $50 per month. 50,000 standard calls and 250 premium calls per month, 1 GB of storage, unlimited public reports with no Maps MCP footer, up to 25 child workspaces, and embed allowlists.
Premium calls are tools that cost more to run, such as AI-written narratives, large renders, and some data ingests and publishing steps. The get_billing_status tool lists which tools are premium.
- Billing. Paid plans are billed monthly through Stripe, our payment processor. By subscribing, you authorize charges to your payment method for your plan and any overage.
- Overage. On Starter and Pro, with a payment method on file, you can keep going past your plan's included calls and pay as you go for the extra at the rates on the pricing page, currently $0.0002 per standard call and $0.04 per premium call. Overage is billed on your Stripe invoice. You can set a monthly spending cap with the
set_spending_controls tool. Free workspaces never incur charges; once a Free workspace reaches its limits, further calls may be refused until the next month or an upgrade.
- Cancel anytime. You can change plans or cancel at any time in the Stripe billing portal, which you can open from the dashboard's "Manage billing" button or with the
open_billing_portal tool. When a cancellation takes effect, your workspace moves to the Free plan. Downgrading does not delete your data.
- No refunds for partial months. Fees you have paid are non-refundable, and we don't refund partial months, except where the law requires it.
- Failed payments. If a payment fails and your subscription lapses, your workspace returns to the Free plan until billing is fixed.
- Price changes. We will give you at least 30 days' notice by email before we change the price of your plan. The new price applies from your first billing period after the notice period ends. If you don't want to pay it, cancel before then.
Enterprise and grandfathered plans follow the terms agreed for them.
Availability and support
We work to keep Maps MCP fast and available, but we don't promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free, and we may take it down for maintenance, sometimes without notice. The Free and Starter plans come with no uptime guarantee. Pro does not include a service-level agreement either; one is available only as part of a signed Enterprise agreement.
Support is best-effort, through the in-product ticket tools (submit_ticket or the Tickets section of the dashboard) and by email at [email protected].
Suspension and termination
- You can stop using Maps MCP at any time. To close your account, cancel any paid plan and email us to ask that your workspace be deleted.
- We may suspend or terminate your access if you break these terms, don't pay, put the service or other customers at risk, or if the law requires it. Where it's practical and lawful, we will tell you first and give you a chance to fix the problem. We may also end these terms for any reason with 30 days' notice.
- After termination, your right to use the service ends. We keep your workspace data for a 30-day grace period, during which you can ask us for an export. After that we may permanently delete it. We may delete data sooner when the law or a security issue requires it. Fees you owe remain due.
Parts of these terms that by their nature should outlast termination, including ownership, fees owed, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnity, and governing law, survive it.
Disclaimers
The service and all data in it are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement, to the fullest extent the law allows.
Boundary, election, demographic, and other data come from government and third-party sources and from automated processing such as geocoding and AI-generated text. They can contain errors, be out of date, or differ from official records. Check results that matter against official sources, and don't rely on the service alone for legal, electoral, compliance, or safety-critical decisions.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows:
- Maps MCP will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data, or goodwill, even if we were told they were possible.
- Maps MCP's total liability for all claims relating to the service or these terms is limited to the fees you paid us in the 12 months before the event that gave rise to the claim.
Some places don't allow some of these limits, so they may not all apply to you. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law does not allow to be limited.
Indemnity
You will defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Maps MCP against third-party claims, and the resulting losses, damages, and reasonable costs (including legal fees), that arise from your customer data, the reports you publish, or your use of the service in breach of these terms or the law.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We will post the new version on this page with a new "Last updated" date, and for material changes we will also tell you by email or with a notice on the site before they take effect. If you keep using the service after a change takes effect, you accept the updated terms. If you don't agree, stop using the service and cancel.
Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and of the state in which Maps MCP's operator is domiciled, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute relating to these terms or the service will be resolved in the courts located in that state, and you and Maps MCP consent to their jurisdiction.
General
These terms, together with the Privacy Policy and any agreement we sign with you, are the entire agreement between you and Maps MCP about the service. If any part is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. If we don't enforce a term right away, we haven't waived it. You may not transfer these terms without our written consent; we may transfer them as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
